ABOUT SARA JENKINS
The daughter of a foreign correspondent and a food writer, Sara grew up all over the Mediterranean, eating and cooking her way through several cultures. She began her professional career in the kitchen with Todd English at Fig’s in Boston, then went on to work as a chef in Florence and the Tuscan countryside before returning to the New York where she earned a reputation for her rustic Italian cooking at I Coppi, Il Buco and 50 Carmine.
In 2008 Sara opened Porchetta, a storefront restaurant in Manhattan’s East Village that focuses on the namesake dish, a richly seasoned pork roast common in Italy as street food. In 2010 she opened Porsena, where she draws on memories of her Tuscan and Roman childhood to create a pasta-centric menu featuring Italy’s finest ingredients. In 2012 she opened Porsena Extra Bar, a wine bar serving small Mediterranean plates, raw-milk cheeses, hand-crafted cured meats and seasonal vegetables.
Sara is also the author of Olives & Oranges: Recipes and Flavor Secrets from Italy, Spain, Cyprus, and Beyond.
